Unless you’re living under a rock, you know what Foursquare is. Since I am not yet a smartphone user (not by choice – I’m finishing my last year on contract with my conventional cellphone), I suppose I’m sort of living under a rock… and not using Foursquare.

Consumer Reports: Best Cellphone Buying Experience
In its June 2010 issue, Consumer Reports released the results of a survey of nearly 11,000 of its online subscribers, asking them about their cellphone buying experiences. Apple stores rated the highest, getting top marks for checkout, activation and service, despite only selling one type of handset – the iPhone.

Verizon to Sell iPhone in 2011
Verizon Wireless will start selling the Apple iPhone in January, according to a report by Amy Thomson of Bloomberg news service (June 30).
Thomson cited unnamed sources, who said AT&T’s exclusive right to sell the iPhone runs out at the end of the year. “(This opens) the door for Verizon to provide an alternative (network) for iPhone users who have become frustrated with spotty service on AT&T’s network,” wrote Paul McDougall of InformationWeek (June 30).

Microsoft Scraps Kin; Focusing on Windows Phone 7
Back in April, we published an article about Microsoft’s latest social networking phones aimed at teenagers, the Kin One and Kin Two (See Kin Article). In it, we quoted JR Raphael of PC World (April 14), who said the phones aren’t equipped to meet the needs of avid, real-time, app-using social networkers.
Turns out he was right. Two weeks ago (June 30), Microsoft announced it was discontinuing the Kin phone line, less than two months after the phones hit store shelves.
